

Nut growing is an increasing economic activity in Armenia with thousands of hectares currently in production and/or under development. The sector is a sizeable employer in the regions of Armenia and contributes to economic growth and Government revenues and increasingly so in the coming years. The Union of Tree Nut Producers was established in April 2025. Its aim is to support its members to improve production and quality, market their products and enter new markets. For this, close collaboration with Government institutions and international actors is necessary.
Objective 1: Productivity and sustainability of tree nut farming supported and enhanced.
Results: knowledge increased among farmers on use of fertilizers, pesticides and possible biological alternatives, optimum use of hulls, shells
Activities: int’l expert assistance provided to Union members, organisation and attendance at conferences, seminars
Objective 2: Increase market access and export competitiveness for tree nut product through improving food safety standards
Results: Awareness on Global GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) raised and standards implemented
Activities: Local and int’l expert assistance provided to Union members on implementing standards
Objective 3. Improved plant health promoted by contributing to phyto-sanitary analysis and testing capabilities
Results: Collaboration with the Food Safety Inspection Board, notably the Food Safety Department within the FSIB
Activities: Equipment and training provided to (if required), regular testing of produce
Objective 4: Awareness promoted on the health benefits and consumption of tree nuts increased.
Results: Ongoing promotion on local produce organised
Activities: Creating informative website; marketing campaigns organised in Armenia (and when appropriate, abroad), including online
Objective 5: Knowledge shared and collaboration built among tree nut growers
Results: Information exchanged on a regular base, joint participation and collaboration in organisation’s activities and promotional activities.
Activities: Members participate actively in the regularly organised meetings and promotions
Objective 6: Exchange established with the Agrarian University of Armenia and the Agrarian colleges
Results: Apprenticeships established at members’ farms for agricultural students on a continuous basis and practical input provided for the improvement of the university and college curricula
Activities: Continuing information exchange
