ASSIGNMENT BASIC GOAL

“STRIVE” Project description:

STRIVE for a better future: communities and civil society resilience in Armenia (STRIVE) aims to improve the resilience, sustainability, accountability, and capacity for innovation of Armenian civil society organisations․ The project support includes CSO organizational capacity improvement, targeted financial support, social innovation projects’ implementation by non-formal groups, strengthening networking and cooperation of CSOs, and promotion of volunteerism and youth leadership.

One of the STRIVE project outputs is that the CSOs & media organisations lead evidence-based research, reporting, and educational initiatives to fight malign content and increase media literacy and critical-thinking competencies.

Job content:

A. To develop an analytical paper on media literacy, comprising a policy brief focusing on:

  • Current CSO engagement in combating malign content,
  • Evidence to enable key actors and policy makers to understand the issues and to devise policy or programming responses,
  • The current challenges of the media environment in Armenia which affect the coverage and visibility of the work of CSOs.
  • B. The policy brief will be accompanied by a toolkit on media literacy and identifying malign content (i.e., misinformation, disinformation, critical thinking), such as how to verify the credibility of information. The toolkit should be user-friendly and should focus on practical information and recommendations, targeting all citizens – regardless of specific background, opinion, or position. The toolkit will be disseminated digitally and via CSOs and community centers.

Job responsibilities

  • Conduct mapping of key civil society actors working on the topic of media literacy and identifying the needs and issues in the regions of the Republic of Armenia and in Yerevan,
  • According to the needs assessment, identify new topics and integrate them into the content of the analytical paper,
  • Develop a media literacy toolkit, making it accessible to persons with disabilities,
  • Develop campaign on dissemination of the toolkit to be carried out by STRIVE team,
  • Conduct online or offline awareness workshops with CSOs on the toolkit and analytical paper, reaching to 150-200 people,
  • Review the risks and problems encountered during the campaigns and outline ways to manage them,
  • Submit the final toolkit and analytical paper (in Armenian language, electronic version, which will also include additional materials and links in Russian/English).
SCHEDULE / REPORT

I. 10th day from the date of signing the contract: Preliminary report: Schedule, work plan, list of beneficiaries, partners.

II. 20th day from the date of signing the contract: Report on implementation of the mapping and need assessment.

III. 45th day from the date of signing the contract: Present the draft version of analytical paper and toolkit. Presentation of developed campaign.

IV. 60th day from the date of signing the contract: Delivery of the final analytical paper and the toolkit, presentation on the results of online/in-person awareness workshops (targeting 150-200 participants).

Required qualifications

Required qualifications and skills.

  • Educational background in communications, journalism, and/or media studies․
  • Work experience in relevant field․
  • Experience in conducting similar research and developing analytical papers.
  • Experience in working with international projects.
  • Experience in planning and conducting workshops.
  • Awareness about CSOs in Armenia.
  • Good knowledge of the Armenian language.
  • Strong writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work individually and in a team.
  • Knowledge of English is desirable.

  • Brief description of toolkit development activities, including budget and schedule.
