Directs and guides the activities of a research or technical design function responsible for designing, developing, modifying, and evaluating el ectronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for electronic equipm ent, or other hardware systems and/or electrical engineering application s. Evaluates final results of research and development projects to assur e accomplishment of technical objectives. Prepares and presents reports outlining the outcome of technical projects and makes recommendations fo r actions necessary to achieve desired results. Selects, develops, and e valuates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
Manages the coordination of activities of a function with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods, and employees through subordina te supervisors. Possesses a full understanding of specialization area plus working knowl edge of multiple related areas. Customarily manages the coordination of the activities of a department with responsibility for priority-setting and results, including costs, methods and staffing. Acts as an advisor to employees to meet schedules and/or resolve problems. Develops and a dministers schedules and performance requirements for department. Regul arly receives assignments in the form of objectives and uses discretion and independent judgment to determine how to use resources to meet sched ules and goals. Provides guidance to employees within the latitude of e stablished company policies. Recommends changes to policies and establi shes procedures that affect immediate organization(s). Follows processe s and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtai ning solutions. Interacts with senior internal personnel, functional pee r group managers, and external customers, normally involving matters bet ween functional areas, other business units, or customers and the compan y. Leads a cooperative effort among members of a project team.
