Job description:
Under the leadership of the National Programme Development Director (NPDD), the National Alternative Care Advisor leads the development Alternative Care (AC) strategy and plans, and performs an advising role by evaluating and monitoring the quality of implementation of child and youth care standards in all projects based on relevant child care standards, SOS Children’s Villages Programme Services regulation and other policies and standards.

Job responsibilities
- Drafts and updates the Concepts and Guidelines on AC based on SOS Children’s Villages International policies and guidelines, and the current legislation of the Republic of Armenia.
- Leads the smooth development of Alternative Care (AC) strategy and plans on the base of the vision, strategy and values, guidelines and concepts of SOS Children’s Villages.
- Supports the National Programme Development Director (NPDD), in case of need and according to the strategy, the development of new services and new approaches,
- Drafts and updates the Concepts and Guidelines on AC based on SOS Children’s Villages International policies and guidelines, and the current legislation of the Republic of Armenia.
- Conducts and coordinates regular meetings with caretakers in AC services to discuss successes, challenges and developmental needs.
- Supports the National Programme Development Director (NPDD) in implementing and monitoring standards that relate to the quality of child and youth care of SOS Children’s Villages programs.
- Participates in AC research programmes organised by SOS CV International Organization.
- Provides the effective and regular cooperation of AC services and programmes of SOS CV Armenia.
- Consults NPDD and HR Manager on procedures related to the Standards supporting SOS Child and Youth Care Practitioners.
- Documents the reseach results conducted in the field of AC, success experiences and achievements.
- Responsible within own area of work to prevent and protect children of all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination based on SOS Child and Youth Safeguarding Policy principles.
- Responsible to report any Child Safeguarding (CS) suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately following Child Safeguarding reporting and responding procedures. CS reports should be made to the national CS focal person or any other member of the national CS team and/or to respective line manager.
Required qualifications
Required Qualifications
- University degree in human rights and/or social sciences.
- Working experience of minimum 3 years in relevant fields of social and child protection programmes or child and family development programmes.
- Motivation for work focused on children and families
- Good knowledge of written and spoken English

- Advanced knowledge of standards and current directions of development in the field of child rights, Prevention and Alternative care, and social welfare system.
- Good knowledge of legal issues related to social welfare.
- Experience in project management, planning, monitoring and evaluation
- Good knowledge of local professional psycho-social network
- Strong communication skills
- Organisational and planning skills
- Will and ability to cope with flexible working hours
- Ability to work under high pressure
- Computer literacy (MS Office)
Preferred additional criteria
- Additional education in the field complementary to the basic education.
- Knowledge of national policy developments in the area of child welfare
- Experience in advising and consulting work
- Experience and readiness to work in team
- Readiness for professional development
- Willingness to travel frequently
- Driving licence.

About Company
Following the devastating 1988 Spitak earthquake which killed around 25,000 people and made half a million homeless in Armenia, SOS Children's Villages decided to offer immediate aid to the children who had lost their parents. A short while later, the organisation started working on a permanent basis in Kotayk, just outside the area that had been destroyed. Since then, SOS Children's Villages has continued to support children, young people and families, and it is now present in three locations.
