Armenia’s growth opportunity from relocating talent

An interview with a recent transplant from Lebanon to Yerevan reveals that bringing in new talent to the Armenia tech scene provides an opportunity for our community to grow. By adding talent from outside the country, we fuel our job market with new experts who bring knowledge and experience that they are able to share. “New senior specialists on the team can create new growth opportunities for our junior professionals. Instead of relying on the same limited number of experts in the industry, the local tech community can benefit from the talent relocating to Armenia,” shares DISQO Armenia’s Engineering Director, Harutyun Baghdasaryan.

DISQO has successfully been moving talent to Armenia since 2020. Hampig Sinanian, Sr. IT Support Technician, moved to Armenia in October 2020 from Lebanon. Hampig said, “After the explosion in Beirut, I decided to continue my career in a developing country and build a future for me and my family in a promising environment. Armenia was an attractive destination not only for my cultural and national ties, but also for its well-established and growing tech scene. After applying and receiving several offers from different tech companies, I decided DISQO was the best place to be,” shares Hampig. We sat down with him to learn more about his experience and why DISQO was the right place for his next career journey.

Why did you choose DISQO?

DISQO is a global tech startup that has a team in Armenia. The dynamics of the company and the challenge of the work excited me. It was a promising opportunity to take ownership in the initial stages of building a team and organization from scratch. I was the first person hired as an IT team member for DISQO in Armenia when I joined. Thanks to the growth opportunities provided to us and endless support of the team, I was promoted from IT Support Technician to Sr. IT Support Technician.

How was the relocation experience for you? 

“As I was new to Armenia, I knew literally nothing about the country and how to settle here,” shares Hampig. Although DISQO did not have a special relocation package that time, the People Operations team supported and guided him in the legal paperwork and logistics in Yerevan. “They even helped me translate documents and communicate with locals, as I was not fluent in Armenian. Luckily, our main language is English at work, so it helped me get on board much more easily,” adds Hampig.

With this experience and other further practices, DISQO developed a special package for supporting talent to move to Armenia. 

As advice to those who are thinking of moving to Armenia, Hampig advises to stay patient and optimistic throughout the process and trust the Armenian tech community and their commitment to support. 

How does DISQO help its team members for relocation?
